going local

Since I've changed my diet or eating habits/ life style whatever you want to call it I've been thinking deeper about how I can change more and make my life and environment happy and healthier.

I've decided, a whole 25 minutes ago that I'm going to cut out most if not all of my non local purchases. Mainly food. I'm lucky enough that here in Toronto we have a farmers market so I have the opportunity to eat locally and seasonally.

Which really means, cutting back as much as possible on packaged, processed foods that are shipped from anywhere besides Ontario.

I think for the most part it will be really easy and it will be definitely easy on my wallet that's for sure. So far I'm not sure how I feel about my other purchases. I would like to spend less on stupid things that I want and don't need. But for now I will focus on the food.

Budgeting.

Let's face it budgeting is fucking hard.
I'm not horrible with money but I'm not exactly good either.

About a year ago I created an online budget using mint. I didn't really use it until a few months ago when we decided this shit hole was enough. We needed a better apartment so we had to up our price range.

Technically we can afford 100$ price increase. If not more but with our spending habits we would be fucked if we raised it at all. We decided to make a pretty strict budget.

60$ for restaurants and 30$ for booze. Not really that strict but considering what we were spending its cutting it more than just in half. The rest of our money was planning to go into our savings for the future and towards bills. Also just to prove to our selves that we could in fact still live with spending more on rent.

So far the budget hasn't really been sticking. We've cut back a butt load but we still aren't saving any money and not really seeing anything go into our savings.

We only have two months and a bit to get our shit together before our lease is up and were out of here. I really hope we can get our shit together.

Lamps and hot dogs.

On a recent trip to value village we spotted this really ugly wooden table lamp that had an interesting shape to it and a missing shade. Cue the silent sobs.

We both instantly saw it's potential to be a bright orange magical lamp. We saw, we bought, we painted. We ruined our patio table. Next summers going to be fun times with a razor and intense scrapping.

There's currently still no shade hense the close up of the base. We've yet to find the perfect color.

On a lighter note a hot dog place opened up on our street. Weird I know but they sell veggie dogs and have over 60 toppings. The toppings include crazy shit like onion rings, pretzels, nutella and some normal things like hummus, hot peppers, blue cheese. Okay still not totally your regular hot dog place but the creations are endless. Two thumbs up.

etarian.

Recently I've switched back to not eating any meat with the occasional fish. Although last nights salmon burger got me thinking the whole fish thing is going to come to a screeching halt sooner rather than later.

It's been a lot of fun finding new recipes but honestly it's been a challenge. I'm not quite sure where to look now. Sticking with the same recipe sites is not working. I actually like to find a few similar recipes and combine the into one but with not really knowing how to cook vegetarian it's a little more risky so when I want to create something different I go to the basics. Daring, I know.

I made a vegetarian chili a few weeks ago. Absolutely fucking amazing. Best chili I've ever had. One day I might throw my recipe up here but for now I'll leave you with this drool worthy photo.

Sanko very much

Not sure if it's a good or bad thing to be sent home early when supporting your self with a minimum wage part time job. Either way, I'm home and I'm grateful. It's raining and all I want to do is curl up under blankets with tea and watch movies and that's just what I'll do but with a coffee drown in sugar and cream because lets face it, I'm a pig. So sanko, sanko very much for being a slow day in the land of discount shopping.

That awkward moment...

When your about to swallow your breakfast and your boyfriend yells out
"I finally pulled that long hair out of my neck."

And she's up!

Okay, I did it. The tree is up. Not like it was hard to get up, it was actually hard not to put it up earlier.
My first plan was to have it up before Halloween. Since I'm Canadian it seemed okay considering it was after Thanksgiving. Although I waited until the day of the Santa Claus Parade.
Which I attended this weekend for a mere 15 minutes only to see one terrifying float, a giraffe and a glimpse of Santa.

Yes I totally instagramed it, yeah that's right it's now a verb. Also, yes those ornaments that appear to be overlapping drive me crazy and yes right after this picture was taken I moved them. And yes again I edited my tree several times. What can I say I am most definitely type A.
